It is believed Humpback whales come to Hawaii because of the warm waters, good water visibility, varied ocean depths and lack of natural predators. They usually start to arrive as early as December and a few may linger as late as May, before heading back to Alaska to feed for the summer months.  Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. where humpback whales mate, calve and nurse their young. They are one of the most dynamic and interesting whales to watch, often exhibiting Arial behaviors such as breaching, tail slapping, and spy hopping.
